For the first time in the history of the World Supersport 600 championship, there’s going to be a women riding a supersport machine full time. Spanish rider Maria Herrera has finally got the good news from the MS Racing team, that they’ve got a spot for her in this championship, and they’ve got a Yamaha R6 waiting for her.

Maria Herrera was supposed to be racing this season in the brand-new FIM MotoE Cup, with the Angel Nieto Team, but on the last minute, she got word that MS Racing was going to step up their game and move to the World Supersport 600 class.

Maria already knows the team well, after all, it’s the same team with which she raced in 2018 on the World SuperSport300 class, impressing by her results.

For World Superbike and Supersport organizers, Dorna, this is also great news. Maria Herrera becomes the first women to race full time in this class, after Katja Poensgen (Nürburgring 1998) or Alessia Polita (Monza 2013) showed they too could race a supersport bike just like men do.

With this announcement, Maria Herrera will definitely leave the SuperSport300 class for good, and she will race the Supersport 600 and also enter the FIM MotoE Cup at the same time.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
