MotoGP – Lewis Hamiton to try the Petronas Yamaha bike?

MotoGP – Lewis Hamiton to try the Petronas Yamaha bike?

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton passion for motorcycles isn’t a surprise or anything new to us, and just a few weeks back, the British driver and Formula 1 champion spent a day testing with the factory PATA Yamaha World Superbike team in Jerez, Spain. Hamilton surprised team riders Michael van der Mark and Alex Lowes, and he said he would now like to try a MotoGP prototype.

Well, Lewis Hamilton might be granted his wish very soon!

According to Razlan Razali, Sepang circuit CEO, and current Petronas Yamaha SRT team manager, the Malasian oil giant is probably thinking to put Lewis Hamilton on the seat of a Yamaha YZR-M1 of the new satellite Yamaha team in MotoGP.

Being the main sponsor for the Mercedes F1 team, Petronas could well be taking advantage of Lewis Hamilton passion for motorcycles and do some kind of publicity stunt, letting the multiple F1 champion try out the M1 that will be ridden by Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo.

During the Petronas Yamaha SRT team launch in Kuala Lumpur, and speaking to Crashnet, Razali said “Working with Petronas, they are very aggressive in their engagement and activation. I would not be surprised if sooner rather than later they get Lewis Hamilton involved”.

Will we finally see Lewis Hamilton riding a MotoGP bike?

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
