Marc Marquez Injury

Has expected and announced by the Repsol Honda team, Marc Marquez went to Barcelona, where he was subjected to two surgeries on his injured left shoulder. What was expected to be a simple procedure, ended up being much more difficult, with experienced Dr. Xavier Mir confirming that the MotoGP champion injury was far serious than expected.

Used to work on these kind of injuries on MotoGP riders at the specialized Barcelona Dexeus Institute hospital, Dr. Mir explained that the procedure had to be divided in two separate parts, one with Marquez shoulder open for the medical team to work on the bone itself, and a second surgery with the shoulder “closed”, where the team worked on the ligaments.

According to Dr. Mir, Marquez shoulder was popping out of place in any direction of movement, and that’s the reason why we all witnessed his shoulder dislocating out of place when Scott Redding gave him a compliment after the Motegi race, where Marc was crowned champion for the fifth time.

Speaking after the surgeries, and with Marc Marquez already focused on working his muscles to be 100% fit in time for the start of the 2019 MotoGP season, Dr Xavier Mir explained how he was surprised to see Marc Marquez racing and becoming champion with his shoulder in such a bad condition

“The surgery was more complicated than expected. His shoulder was getting out of place very easily. I don’t understand how he was able to win the World Championship in this state. But he’s done it, and that gives him more credit. We’re not 100% sure this injury won’t show up again, but the stability test we did was good. While he was asleep we moved his shoulder in every direction and it didn’t dislocate. It’s a good sign, because when he is awake, he will have more strength on his muscles and it will hold better”.

Will Marc Marquez injury be able to recover 100% in time for the first pre-season test for MotoGP in Sepang?

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
