Nicky Hayden lost his life five days after being victim of a traffic accident in Misano, May 22, 2017, while riding a bicycle for training purposes. On October 10, the trial of the driver who crashed into Hayden starts, and Hayden’s family is asking for a big compensation.
For the past year and a half, Hayden’s family has instructed their lawyers to pursue a lawsuit against the 31-year-old driver, who crashed into Nicky Hayden in a road junction very close to Misano racetrack. According to Hayden’s family lawyers, the driver was travelling above the allowed speed for that road – 72,8 km/h instead of the 50 km/h allowed -, and that’s why he couldn’t avoid the crash that eventually took the life of the American rider.
The defense of the driver will of course show multiple evidences that, in their opinion, will show that even if the driver was travelling at 50 km/h, he wouldn’t be able to stop in time to avoid Hayden, because the American didn’t respect the STOP sign at the junction.
Hayden’s family is asking for a compensation for the rider’s death, and the amount is of 6 million euros (RM28.963,374).
Apart from this lawsuit, Nicky Hadyen will be remembered in a special ceremony at in Misano. During the San Marino Grand Prix, a monument in honor of Hayden will be unveiled, as well as a city park for people to remember this former MotoGP champion.
