Nuviz debuts fully-integrated Head-up Display (HUD) system for motorcyclists

Nuviz debuts fully-integrated Head-up Display (HUD) system for motorcyclists

Love sci-fi? Love motorcycles? Love both? If you answered yes to all, here’s something that might pique your interest. According to Nuviz, the firm has just showcased the world’s first fully-integrated head-up display (HUD) system for motorcyclists at the CES 2018 show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Those who are more grounded to reality, well, the best this gadget can do is probably make you feel like the lead out of a Mission Impossible spin-off series. The revolutionary HUD system was actually launched close to a year ago but it is 2018 whereby the firm has just bagged the award for best innovation. That, and the fact that a monumental update is on its way for the HUD system in February 2018.

More on that later. First, the nitty-gritty. The Nuviz HUD system comes equipped with a patented LCOS microdisplay optics unit that projects all the necessary information – in full colour – 4 metres in front of the rider’s field of vision. The list of information include map and navigational directions, communication options and media devices along with the current playlist of music.

Also equipped is an action camera capable of taking still photos of 8MP as well as recording HD videos of 1080p/30fps. Actions for the camera are controlled via a dedicated camera button on the Nuviz controller that can be mounted on to the handlebar of one’s motorcycle for ease of use.

A Qualcomm quad-core processor powers the Nuviz HUD system along with its onboard GPS and accelerometer, gyroscope and altimeter. The system itself is powered by a rechargeable (and replaceable) 3,250 mAh Li-ion battery. Service range is quoted at 8 hours. The aforementioned Nuviz controller itself is powered by what the firm calls “Bluetooth low energy (LE)” that should allow it to “last for many years of use.”
