French boutique motorcycle maker Midual has pulled the covers off an exceptionally limited new model, the Francaise: a hand-crafted café racer that will be built in a run of just five bikes worldwide.
Midual derived the Francaise from its Type 1 Series 3, a model that already sits firmly in the upper echelon of the luxury motorcycle market with a €186,000 price tag (around £165,000 / approximately RM950,000). Although the company has not yet disclosed official pricing for the new variant, expectations suggest it could edge closer to €300,000 (roughly RM1.53 million), a figure not unfamiliar to Midual customers.
In fact, the firm previously introduced the even rarer Quintessence at exactly €300,000, with production capped at only three examples. Against that backdrop, a near-€300k price for the Francaise would be consistent with the brand’s positioning in the ultra-premium space.
A More Focused Café Racer Identity
Although it shares its foundations with the Series 3, the Francaise carries a more pronounced café racer character. The riding position appears slightly more aggressive thanks to revised handlebar placement, while a neatly integrated flyscreen now sits above the circular headlamp.
Styling cues underline its national identity. A French tricolour graphic decorates the tank, and a bold blue saddle provides a striking contrast to the rest of the machine. The rear remains slender and minimalist, closely following the silhouette of its sibling model, and the exhaust system retains the clean, sculpted layout seen on the Series 3.

Engineering That Defies Convention
As with all Midual motorcycles, the standout feature is the engine configuration. The 1,036cc boxer twin is mounted longitudinally, meaning the pistons move front to back rather than side to side — a rare setup in modern motorcycling. It’s a technical hallmark that sets Midual apart from more conventional manufacturers.
The Francaise produces 100 bhp and 69 lb-ft of torque. While these figures won’t challenge modern superbikes, Midual designed the bike with a different focus. The Francaise serves as a statement piece, an object of mechanical art where exclusivity and craftsmanship take priority over lap times.
Despite its collectible status, the bike is road-legal. Whether any of the five owners will regularly ride theirs, however, remains another question entirely.
Public Debut
The Francaise was first shown at the Retromobile exhibition in Paris and is due to appear at the 2-Wheel Show in Lyon later this month, giving enthusiasts a rare opportunity to see one of the five machines up close.
With its blend of national pride, unconventional engineering and extreme scarcity, the Midual Francaise reinforces the company’s reputation for building motorcycles that occupy a space somewhere between precision machinery and rolling sculpture.
