Marc Márquez to Miss MotoGP Rounds in Australia and Malaysia

Marc Márquez to Miss MotoGP Rounds in Australia and Malaysia

Marc Márquez ruled out of the Australian and Malaysian MotoGP due to a right shoulder injury suffered in Mandalika, with recovery expected before the season finale.

Ducati’s lead rider, Marc Márquez, will sit out at least two upcoming MotoGP races after crashing during the Indonesian Grand Prix last weekend.

Medical examinations at Hospital Ruber Internacional in Madrid revealed Márquez has sustained a small fracture on the coracoid process of his right shoulder (near the shoulder blade) and ligament damage in the same region. The medical team confirmed that no bone displacement is present, and that the injury is unrelated to previous shoulder issues which once forced him into an extended break.

Ducati’s medical staff have opted for conservative treatment rather than surgery. The plan includes complete rest and avoidance of movement on the right shoulder until recovery is assured. Consequently, Márquez will not race at Phillip Island (Australia, 19 October) or Sepang (Malaysia, 26 October).

His return will depend on further medical assessments. If all goes well, Márquez could be back for the final two rounds of the season: GP Portugal (9 November) and GP Valencia (16 November). Importantly, Márquez had already secured his ninth world title (and seventh in MotoGP) at the Japanese GP last week, meaning his absence will not affect the championship outcome.

Marc Marquez injury update

Reflecting on the situation, Márquez stated:

“Luckily, the injury isn’t too serious, but I must follow the recovery timeline prescribed by the doctors. I’m eager to return as soon as possible, but I don’t want to rush.”

In Mandalika, Márquez who started from ninth on the grid had collided with Marco Bezzecchi after just seven corners, which caused both riders to crash. After the incident, Ducati promptly sent him back to Spain for thorough medical evaluation. As of now, Ducati has not yet announced a replacement rider for the two races Márquez will miss.

Cars and motorcycles have always been more than just machines — they’re stories made of sound, speed, and soul. I write about them the way I live them: with curiosity, excitement, and a little chaos in between.
