Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer dominates in Indonesia for his first-ever MotoGP victory, while newly crowned champion Marc Marquez and polesitter Marco Bezzecchi crash out in a dramatic opening-lap incident.

Gresini Racing’s Fermin Aldeguer delivered a sensational performance to claim his first-ever MotoGP victory at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, capitalising on chaos behind him as Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi collided on the opening lap in Mandalika.
The 20-year-old Spaniard showed maturity beyond his years, crossing the finish line over six seconds clear of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in second, with Alex Marquez rounding out the podium for Gresini, marking a memorable double celebration for the team.
Bezzecchi, who had dominated qualifying with a new lap record, endured a nightmare start under humid Lombok conditions. After dropping from pole to seventh, the Italian attempted to regain positions but ran into the back of Marquez’s Ducati, sending both riders tumbling into the gravel. Marquez walked away clutching his right shoulder, later confirming a possible collarbone injury that will be assessed further upon his return to Madrid.
Despite the early drama, Aldeguer remained unflustered at the front, setting a consistent pace that none could match. The rookie’s calm, controlled ride earned him a maiden victory and the honour of becoming the second-youngest race winner in MotoGP history.
Behind the leader, the fight for the remaining podium spots provided plenty of fireworks. Brad Binder (KTM) finished fourth, narrowly missing out on the rostrum ahead of Luca Marini, Raul Fernandez, and Fabio Quartararo. Alex Rins’ (Yamaha) early podium charge faded due to bike issues, while Francesco Bagnaia suffered another disappointing weekend, crashing out from last place after starting 16th on the grid.
It was also a race of attrition, with only 19 riders lining up after Maverick Viñales withdrew due to a shoulder injury, and Joan Mir and Enea Bastianini joining the crash list during the race.
Speaking after his breakthrough win, Aldeguer said: “I didn’t look back, I really wanted to make amends from yesterday. I honestly didn’t know I had this rhythm, but thanks to the team we found the perfect setup and had a great race. We narrowly missed out yesterday, but today we got it. I’m proud to be the second-youngest winner in history, though I had hoped to be the first!”
Meanwhile, Marc Marquez reflected on his early exit: “I’m obviously sad because it’s again the right side – in this case, it appears to be the collarbone. Once back in Madrid, I’ll undergo further examinations. This is racing, and these things can happen. Marco came to apologise. I’ll try to return as soon as possible, while fully complying with the recovery process.”
The Indonesian GP marks another chapter in MotoGP’s unpredictable 2025 season, as the young generation continues to shake up the established order with Aldeguer’s breakthrough win serving as a powerful statement of intent.
