Lotte van Drunen Crowned 2025 WMX World Champion in Australia

De Baets Yamaha Supported MX Team’s Lotte van Drunen has etched her name deeper into motocross history after clinching her second consecutive WMX World Championship at the MXGP of Australia in Darwin. The Dutch sensation, only 18 years old, successfully defended her 2024 crown with a third overall finish on the day, extending her dominance in the women’s motocross scene.

Van Drunen’s 2025 campaign began with a statement victory in Sardinia, where she went 1-1, and from there she never relinquished the red plate. Across the six-round season, she missed the podium only once, highlighting her unmatched consistency against a fiercely competitive field.

Arriving in Darwin with a 16-point advantage, van Drunen knew solid results would be enough to secure the title. A third-place finish in the opening moto set the tone, and despite slipping to fourth in the second race after an early holeshot, the result comfortably sealed her second world crown.

Her 2025 season record speaks volumes: one Grand Prix win, four race victories, and five overall podiums from six events.

Reflecting on her achievement, van Drunen said: “This is incredible! To be a two-time world champion at just 18 years old is amazing. I can’t thank my team, Yamaha, and the people around me enough. My friends and family have supported me all season long, and I’d especially like to thank my trainer, who couldn’t make it to this race, but I know he’ll be watching at home.” 

Van Drunen’s back-to-back championships underline not only her raw speed but also her maturity and composure on the track, cementing her status as one of the brightest young talents in motocross.
