Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Aaron Plessinger has officially withdrawn from the remaining rounds of the 2025 Pro Motocross Championship, following continued health issues that first surfaced at RedBud last month. Although he had initially aimed to return at this weekend’s Round 9 at Ironman Raceway, medical advice has prompted the 29-year-old to take additional time off to focus on recovery.

Plessinger made a strong start to the 450MX season, securing podium finishes at both the Hangtown and Thunder Valley Nationals. However, after battling illness in recent rounds, he was forced to sit out Round 8 at Washougal. With his Cortisol levels still lower than expected, doctors have recommended extended rest.

“Unfortunately, getting to the bottom of my health issues is taking longer than I had hoped,” Plessinger stated.

“My Cortisol levels are still really low, so under my doctor’s advice I’m going to sit out the remainder of the MX series. It’s frustrating given I was riding the best I have in my career, but going from leading motos to DNFs is not healthy for me or fair to the team or fans.”

Despite the setback, Plessinger remains fourth in the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) standings and is now targeting a return for Playoff 1 at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, scheduled for September 6.

“I’m already missing seeing the fans and my team every weekend, so you better believe I’ll be back real soon!” he states.

While Plessinger remains on the sidelines, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing will see the return of 250MX riders Tom Vialle and Julien Beaumer, who will join reigning 450MX Champion Chase Sexton at Ironman Raceway this weekend.

Plessinger’s absence is a blow to both fans and the team, but his focus on long-term health reflects a growing trend of athletes prioritising well-being over short-term performance. His determination to recover and return stronger promises an exciting showdown when the SMX Playoffs begin.
