After a three-week break, the Superbike World Championship roars back to life at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli,” with the 2025 Emilia Romagna Round marking the midpoint of the season. For Honda HRC, this weekend could also see the long-awaited return of a full rider line-up, with Xavi Vierge aiming to make his comeback after injury, and Iker Lecuona ready to build on recent progress.

Vierge Determined to Return

The spotlight is firmly on Vierge, who has been sidelined following surgery. Initially ruled out for several rounds, the Spaniard has exceeded recovery expectations and arrived in Italy hoping to be cleared by the circuit’s medical team on Thursday. While not at full fitness, Vierge’s determination to return is clear:

“The original plan was to be ready for Donington, but I worked very hard every day and now I have a real chance of racing in Misano,” said Vierge. “Even trying to ride on Friday is already a win for me. I’m very thankful to the doctors and the team for their support.”

The team’s recent test at Misano gives Vierge a slight advantage, providing valuable data that may help him ease back into competitive form more smoothly despite not participating in the sessions himself.

Lecuona Targets Strong Weekend

Meanwhile, teammate Iker Lecuona heads into the weekend with confidence after a productive two-day test at the Misano circuit in late May. The Spaniard was able to refine the bike’s base setup and left the test with a strong feeling, though mindful that racing conditions, especially in the expected high temperatures, could shake things up.

“We made real progress in testing,” said Lecuona. “But now we’ll see how it holds up under race conditions. If the heat raises the track temperature and lowers grip, it’ll be a different challenge altogether. But I’m physically and mentally ready.”

Season Context and Championship Standings for Honda HRC

After five rounds, Vierge and Lecuona sit seventh and ninth respectively in the championship standings. Both riders have shown flashes of form, particularly during the Czech round, where qualifying and race pace highlighted the bike’s growing competitiveness. Misano, with its mix of fast corners and technical sections, could prove a key turning point as the team looks to climb further up the leaderboard.

About the Circuit

Misano’s 4.2km layout features 16 corners and has undergone several changes since its 1972 debut. Located near Italy’s Adriatic coast, the track is known for its intense summer heat and often becomes a battle not just between riders, but between riders and the elements.

Misano SBK Schedule (CET)

As the championship hits its stride, all eyes will be on Misano to see if Vierge’s comeback can become a reality — and whether Honda HRC can turn recent progress into a podium push.
