Muhammad Hakim Danish bin Ramli and Qabil Irfan bin Azlan were crowned the overall champions of the SIC MiniGP tournament for the 160cc and 110cc categories respectively. The final rounds have closed the curtain on the SIC MiniGP Championship for 2020 which took place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIKC) today.

Hakim Danish’s victory in the 160cc category places him in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup 2021. He will compete internationally with Asian riders such as Japan, Indonesia, Thailand and others. Meanwhile, the 110cc category is held by Qabil Irfan, who is the youngest rider in this tournament.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the SIC MiniGP tournament which was initially scheduled for 5 rounds and 12 races had to be shortened to 4 rounds.

This Round 3 & 4 MiniGP SIC tournament was held in private and without the presence of spectators to ensure the risk of Covid-19 outbreak infection can be avoided.

In the Round 3 qualifying session which took place in good weather conditions, Qabil Irfan broke the fastest record in the 110cc category with a record of 57.848 seconds with a time difference of 0.491 seconds from the previous record. The fastest lap record held by Irfan Haykal for the 160cc category was successfully broken by the Hakim with the newest record of 55,127 seconds, with a difference of 0.514 seconds.

With the start placed ahead during Round 3, both riders Qabil Irfan and Hakim Danish further strengthened their position in first place from the start until the end of the race. However, the bet to grab the 2nd overall position is still open and taken to the final round. The 110cc category saw intense competition between Adie Putra and Adam Danial to grab the entire 2nd place while in the 160cc category saw competition between Farres Putra and Irfan Haykal.

Round 4 which took place today again saw Qabil Irfan & Hakim Danish lead the race and set a personal record with consecutive victories of 8 races for both categories. The 110cc category saw Qabil Irfan finish the 2020 season with 200 points with the fastest time of 58,030 seconds, followed by Adie Putra in 2nd place with 129 points and Adam Danial with 109 points in 3rd place. For the 160cc category, Hakim Danish finished the race with a fastest time of 55,586 seconds with 200 points overall. 2nd place overall champion was won by Irfan Haykal with 109 points and Farres Putra in 3rd place with 102 points.

“This is the first year this kind of grassroots program has been held in Malaysia and we have successfully unearthed talent as early as 8 years old. I believe more young riders’ talents will be unearthed through this program for years to come and we will ensure more Many improvements will be made for next year and beyond. With this program, we will ensure the continuity of the riders to advance to the international level. Thank you to the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and also DORNA Sports SL, as the organizer Asia Talent Cup on their support and trust in this program as well as hope to realize their dream of MotoGP. ”

ZK Racing Team Manager- ZULFAHMI KHAIRUDDIN

“I am very happy to finish the inaugural SIC MiniGP Championship successfully. Although we had to make some delays in the 2020 season calendar due to the impact of COVID-19, we still use the time advantage for riders to train physically and mentally, nutrition plan, communication, exposure to riding techniques and racing strategies. I hope riders can use the experience and lessons from this program to the best of their ability. What I hope is that we can produce faster and more disciplined world-class riders in the future. ”
