After enjoying a successful nine-years partnership with Kawasaki Racing Team, Tom Sykes will change colors next World Superbike season. We already knew that he will be replaced by newly crowned BSB champion Leon Haslam, who joins the four-time WSBK champion Jonathan Rea, but until now, we didn’t know with who Sykes would continue his career.
With BMW Motorrad wishing to obtain better result in World Superbike, something that isn’t happening with Althea Racing this season, the Bavarian manufacturer closed a deal with Shaun Muir Racing, who currently runs the Aprilia effort, and decided to go all in to secure Tom Sykes efforts from next season.
The British rider, 2013 champion, agreed to join the new team, in hopes that the factory gives the SMR team factory support for the brand-new S1000RR that the team will use next season. Sykes will be joined by Markus Reiterberger, European Superstock 1000 champion in 2018 with BMW Motorrad.
