The reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martín will make his long-awaited return to competition this weekend at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar, marking his first race appearance of the 2025 season after recovering from injury.

The Aprilia Racing team confirmed in a statement that their full line-up will be in action at Lusail International Circuit, with Martín rejoining teammate Marco Bezzecchi as the championship reaches its fourth round.

Martín has been sidelined since suffering multiple fractures in a training accident prior to the season opener. The Spanish rider sustained a complex fracture of the left radius and scaphoid, along with a calcaneal fracture, during a training session on February 25. Following successful surgery, he underwent an intensive rehabilitation program to accelerate his recovery.

Before being cleared to race, Martín must first pass a medical evaluation by the FIM MotoGP medical team. While acknowledging he may not be at full fitness, the defending champion expressed his eagerness to return.

“I’m incredibly excited to be back,” Martín stated. “Qatar will be about rebuilding confidence with the RS-GP25 and gradually getting up to speed. I know I’m not at 100% yet, and finishing the race itself would already be a victory at this stage. We’ll take it step by step to return to our normal level as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, teammate Marco Bezzecchi arrives in Qatar looking to build on his promising performances in the opening rounds. The Italian has shown increasing speed with the Aprilia package and aims to convert that potential into stronger results under Lusail’s floodlights.

“I’ve always enjoyed racing in Qatar,” said Bezzecchi. “The night race atmosphere is special. We’ve identified areas to improve from the first three rounds, and we’ll keep working hard to maximize our results.”

The 5.4km Lusail circuit, hosting MotoGP’s pioneering night race since 2008, features a 1km+ main straight and 16 corners (10 right, 6 left). Its unique desert setting and illuminated track create one of the most visually spectacular events on the calendar.

Martín’s return adds significant intrigue to a championship that has seen early surprises, while Bezzecchi’s continued development with the RS-GP25 could see Aprilia’s challenge for top positions as the European leg of the season approaches.
