Honda HRC Castrol return to familiar territory this weekend as MotoGP heads to the Japanese Grand Prix, a race that carries special meaning for the factory squad. Round 17 offers not only a chance to continue their upward momentum but also the first opportunity to unveil their striking new colours in front of a home audience eager to witness Honda’s progress firsthand.

Motegi: A Track with Honda DNA

Deep in the forested mountains of Tochigi lies Mobility Resort Motegi, a 4.8-kilometre circuit built by Honda in 1997 to serve as a testbed for two- and four-wheeled racing machines. Since joining the MotoGP calendar in 2004, the track has become synonymous with heavy braking and dramatic overtakes, with riders often lifting the rear wheel under extreme deceleration. Over the years, Motegi has hosted numerous Honda victories and World Championship triumphs, making it the ultimate arena for a homecoming performance.

Marini’s Momentum

Luca Marini arrives in Japan chasing a place inside the top ten of the World Championship and determined to secure top Honda honours. The Italian has steadily built pace since returning from injury earlier this season, reducing Johann Zarco’s advantage to just 33 points with six rounds remaining. After finishing 14th here in 2024, Marini is confident of a stronger result in 2025 as the latest RC213V continues to show its improved competitiveness.

Mir Ready to Attack

For Joan Mir, Motegi’s stop-and-go layout offers an ideal platform to exploit his aggressive braking style. The 2020 World Champion has already more than doubled his 2024 points haul and arrives after a week of recovery from a neck injury sustained in Misano. Mir is determined to maintain the speed he and Marini have shown on Fridays and convert it into a strong race result.

A Home Hero Returns

Adding to the excitement, Japanese test rider Takaaki Nakagami will line up for his second wildcard appearance of 2025 with the Honda HRC Test Team. His participation not only delights the home crowd but also provides crucial development data as Honda continues refining the RC213V.

A Stage Set for Progress

Honda HRC Castrol enter their home round with a clear objective: to demonstrate the strides made in 2025 and give their loyal fans a performance to remember. With improved machinery, a motivated rider line-up, and a track steeped in Honda heritage, Motegi promises a weekend of emotion, precision, and the unmistakable roar of Japanese pride.
