In a UK motorcycle market that’s been anything but smooth lately, one Yorkshire dealer is twisting the throttle instead of rolling off. Padgett’s Motorcycles in Batley are going big, very big, with a brand-new, 10,000 square foot Honda ‘Dream’ showroom set to open later this year.
And this isn’t just a lick of paint and a few extra bikes squeezed in.
“This is not an expansion, it’s a completely new site,” says Dealer Principal Helen Padgett. The new building, which has been 18 months in the making, will connect to the existing Padgett’s premises and sit alongside their Suzuki and Yamaha franchises. When the doors open, it’s set to become the largest Honda Dream dealership in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe.
That’s a serious statement of intent.
A dream decades in the making
Padgett’s isn’t new to the Honda family. Founded in 1958 by Peter Padgett with a £275 loan (a hefty sum back then), the business has been selling Honda motorcycles since 1960. Recently, the team picked up a special award at the Honda UK Dealer Conference, marking 65 years of partnership with the Japanese giant.
Helen, who runs the business alongside her sister Fiona, says the move is about growth and heritage. “We’ve completely outgrown our Honda site, which we’ve been in since 2008,” she explains. The Dream showroom concept offers a premium, open-plan environment, complete with a mezzanine floor and space for customers to properly explore everything from 125cc scooters to the Fireblade superbike.
Only a handful of UK dealers follow the Dream format so far, including Bridge Motorcycles in Exeter, Fowlers of Bristol, and John Banks in Colchester. Padgett’s will soon be leading the pack in terms of scale.
Racing runs through the walls
But what really sets Padgett’s apart isn’t just showroom space, it’s racing DNA.
Their relationship with Honda stretches far beyond sales brochures and service schedules. The team made history at the Isle of Man TT in 2010 when Ian Hutchinson won five races in a single week – a record that still stands. Those five victories included three machines that will soon be displayed proudly on the new showroom’s upper floor.
If that’s not enough to lure petrolheads through the doors, Padgett’s are also the only place in the world where you can still buy a crated Honda RC213V-S, a road-going slice of MotoGP exotica.
Honda UK has confirmed the Batley site will allow Padgett’s to showcase the brand’s entire lineup under one roof, while still keeping their unique TT-honed identity front and centre. Expect historic race bikes, iconic images, and plenty of nods to a legacy built at full throttle.
The MCN take
At a time when many UK dealers are tightening belts, Padgett’s are building upwards and outwards. It’s bold, it’s ambitious, and it feels very on-brand for a business forged in racing paddocks and TT podium celebrations.
We’ll be first in line when the doors open. After all, any showroom where you can browse a Fireblade downstairs and stand next to TT-winning machinery upstairs sounds like a pretty good way to spend an afternoon.
