The MotoGP World Championship leaves Australia behind and heads to Malaysia for Round 20, the Malaysian GP at Sepang International Circuit. With the season soon returning to Europe, Jack Miller, Miguel Oliveira, and the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team are focused on scoring strong points this weekend.

After an emotional Australian GP that mixed joy and disappointment, the team is ready to bounce back. Miller impressed by snatching third place in qualifying and fourth in the Sprint Race, showing strong pace on home soil. However, his race ended early with a crash while fighting in the lead group. Now, the focus shifts to Sepang, where both riders want to turn their potential into results.

The Malaysian GP marks the final stop in the overseas leg before MotoGP returns to Europe. For Miller and Oliveira, it’s a special venue. This is the place where they first tested the Yamaha YZR-M1 back in January. Since then, Yamaha has made major improvements to the bike’s handling and speed. This weekend offers the perfect chance to see how far they’ve come.

Sepang is also a track full of memories for both riders. Oliveira has enjoyed great success here, including two victories in Moto3 back in 2015 and Moto2 back in 2017, plus a second place in 2018 and third in 2013. He also has two front-row starts at the circuit. Miller’s best Sepang result came in 2014, when he claimed pole position and finished second in Moto3. Last season, he was involved in a first-lap crash but fortunately escaped unhurt.

Heading into Malaysia, Miller sits 18th in the championship with 66 points, while Oliveira is 20th with 36 points. The Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team currently holds 11th place in the team standings with 105 points. The goal this weekend is clear, to finish the overseas stretch with a strong performance before the final European rounds.

GINO BORSOI

Team Director, Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP
“We‘re returning to Malaysia after the pre-season tests, where we went quite well. We know it won‘t be an easy track for us, as there are some sections where we might struggle a bit, but since those early tests the bike has improved a lot. If we start off on the right foot from the very first sessions, we can have a really good weekend.”

JACK MILLER

Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Rider
“The home GP was an intense one — a real rollercoaster of emotions. Even though it didn‘t end the way we had all hoped, it was amazing to feel the love and support from so many fans who came from all over Australia to cheer for us. With that same energy, we‘re now focusing on the next challenge — one of the most technically complete circuits on the calendar, where we hope to showcase the strengths of the YZR-M1.”

MIGUEL OLIVEIRA

Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Rider
“I am really motivated for the Malaysian GP, especially after the strong pace we showed in the second part of last race. We believe the bike setup we found in Australia can work well here too. The goal is to have a solid weekend, finding the right feeling with my Yamaha straight from the first session.”
