Two-time MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia had a flawless weekend at the Dutch Motorcycle Grand Prix, where the polesitter and sprint race winner claimed victory in Sunday’s race. This win narrowed his deficit to championship leader Jorge Martin by 10 points.

Bagnaia, representing the Ducati Lenovo Team, dominated the practice and qualifying sessions at TT Assen. The Italian rider comfortably led from the first lap to the checkered flag, despite Martin’s efforts to recover from a three-place grid penalty.

Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing penalised for impeding Raul Fernandez in the second qualifying round, managed to finish second after starting in fifth place.

Enea Bastianini, also from the Ducati Lenovo Team, took third place, securing an all-Ducati podium and denying Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Racing Team) and Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) podium spots.

It is now 10 points at the top of the table and a little further back to Marquez after a tyre pressure penalty sees the eight-time World Champion classified tenth.

Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing), who is third in the championship standings, initially finished fourth but dropped to tenth due to a tyre pressure penalty. Maverick Viñales of Aprilia Racing finished sixth, despite his impressive pace in Q2, where he was the third fastest.

Bagnaia’s victory at the TT Circuit Assen marks his third consecutive win at this venue and his third straight MotoGP Grand Prix win of the season. He now ties with Casey Stoner for 23 wins with Ducati, making them the two most successful riders with the Borgo Panigale factory.

Looking ahead, Martin will aim to respond in Germany, a track where he has previously beaten Bagnaia and where Marc Marquez has enjoyed significant success.

The question remains whether Marquez can regain his form at one of his signature tracks, or if his rivals have their own plans to make a statement.
