Yamaha’s latest patent confirms production of the R9

The Yamaha R9 is likely to be set for production with the latest patents for its name and logo.

The Yamaha R9 name came up more than a year ago when the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer filed the YZF-R9 and R9 trademarks for future use.

However, immediately after that, there were no developments until today. Recent news confirms the Yamaha R9 is getting closer to production as the company patented the name YZF-R9 for the logo of the upcoming model in Australia.

While the trademark filed earlier was for the use of the YZF-R9 name, the patent filed this time is to protect the badge of the model that will be used on the physical model soon.

The filed document also displays the logo involved which clearly follows the same logo used for the current Yamaha R25, R7 and R1.

As previously reported, the Yamaha R9 is expected to be powered by the new CP3 890cc engine found on the Yamaha MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT. The same steps have also been applied to the Yamaha R7 which is powered by the same 689cc CP2 engine found in the MT-07.

This means that the upcoming Yamaha R9 will generate 117.3hp and 93Nm and indirectly puts the R9 on par with the power output of the discontinued R6.
