When at the beginning of the MotoGP season Tech3 decided to call Hafizh Syahrin to do two tests during the pre-season, to see if the Malaysian rider had what it takes to race a MotoGP bike, few fans expected to see Syahrin doing so good in his rookie season.
In fact, the Malaysian youngster did so well this season, that he still has the chance to conquer the title of Rookie of the Year 2018!
For that to happen, the Monster Tech3 Yamaha rider, who will remain with the French outfit next season alongside Miguel Oliveira on the satellite KTM team in MotoGP, will need to overcome the 10-point deficit he has to leader Franco Morbidelli.
Hafizh Syahrin left his home race in Sepang last weekend on a high note, with another fantastic performance and a superb top 10 finish, recovered two points over Morbidelli, and kept his chances alive until the last race in Valencia, this next weekend.
Both rookie riders in MotoGP, they’ve been clearly ahead of the other two rookies Takaaki Nakagami and Xavier Simeon, and Valencia will be the sage where they’ll have to battle one last time to find out who is the best MotoGP rookie this season.
As we stand, Syahrin faces a very difficult task in Valencia, but in racing anything can happen and we all hope “our” rider Is able to recover the difference to Morbidelli and give Malaysian even more reasons to celebrate!
