Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled the 2027 Bonneville T40 and Bonneville T40 Black, bringing its iconic Bonneville name to the 400cc motorcycle segment with two models that combine traditional styling and modern technology. The new motorcycles expand Triumph’s growing small-capacity range, offering riders a more accessible entry point into the Bonneville family.
In Malaysia, Triumph currently lists the Speed 400 at RM27,200 and the Scrambler 400 X at RM30,900. Pricing for the new Bonneville T40 and T40 Black has yet to be confirmed, with local prices expected to be announced in early 2027. According to Triumph, both models are scheduled to go on sale globally in late spring 2027.
The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black are powered by a dedicated version of Triumph’s 400cc TR Series single-cylinder engine, manufactured by Bajaj in India. The engine produces 32 PS (31.5 bhp) at 7,000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm.
A revised cylinder head and Bonneville-specific engine tuning are designed to deliver stronger low-end torque and smoother, more relaxed power delivery.
The setup is intended to suit everyday riding, particularly for those who prefer a comfortable roadster rather than a motorcycle built around aggressive performance.
Both motorcycles retain the traditional Bonneville design, featuring a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, round LED headlight, long mudguards, twin rear shock absorbers, spoked wheels and a peashooter-style exhaust. The standard Bonneville T40 features chrome and brushed-metal finishes, complemented by hand-painted coach lining for a classic British motorcycle appearance.

It is available in three two-tone colour combinations:
- Aegean Blue / Fusion White
- Meriden Blue / Tangerine Orange
- New England White / Jet Black
The Bonneville T40 Black takes a darker approach, featuring Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black paintwork alongside blacked-out engine components and exhaust finishes.
Despite its traditional appearance, the Bonneville T40 range comes equipped with a selection of modern rider technology. Both models feature a 4-inch circular full-colour TFT display, smartphone connectivity, navigation and three riding modes. Cruise control is also included, providing additional convenience for longer journeys.
Safety equipment includes lean-sensitive two-channel ABS and traction control, helping riders maintain control under different riding conditions. The combination of classic styling and contemporary electronics allows Triumph to retain the Bonneville’s heritage-inspired character while meeting the expectations of modern riders.
The Bonneville T40 features an upright riding position designed for everyday comfort, with a standard seat height of 790mm. Riders who prefer a lower seating position can opt for an accessory low seat that reduces the height to 770mm.
Also, the motorcycle has a ready-to-ride weight of 191kg and uses hydraulic ByBre disc brakes at both the front and rear. Fuel tank capacity is 14.5 litre. Wheel sizes stand at 18 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear, with lightweight aluminium wheels and a model-specific chassis intended to support manoeuvrability and predictable handling.

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black join an expanding 400cc lineup that already includes the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Tracker 400 and Thruxton 400.
According to Triumph, its 400cc platform has surpassed 60,000 motorcycles sold across more than 50 countries, highlighting the growing importance of the segment to the brand.
For Malaysian riders, the Bonneville T40 models could offer another option in the modern-classic category, combining familiar Bonneville styling with a smaller-capacity engine. However, local pricing and availability remain unconfirmed. More details for the Malaysian market are expected in early 2027.
