The Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team has officially confirmed that Iker Lecuona will remain with the factory squad for the 2027 and 2028 FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) seasons. The contract extension ensures the Spanish rider will continue racing aboard the Ducati Panigale V4 R, strengthening Ducati’s long-term commitment to one of the championship’s rising stars.

The renewal comes after a highly successful first season together. Since joining the factory team at the start of the 2026 WorldSBK campaign, Lecuona has delivered consistent performances, collecting 20 podium finishes and securing his maiden WorldSBK victory in Race 1 at Donington Park during the most recent round.

Strong debut season earns long-term commitment

Lecuona’s performances throughout the 2026 season have demonstrated his ability to adapt quickly to both the Ducati Panigale V4 R and the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team. His speed, consistency, and growing confidence have made him a valuable part of Ducati’s WorldSBK programme.

The new agreement reflects the team’s confidence in the Spaniard’s potential and its belief that continuity will play an important role in challenging for future championship success.

Team principal praises Lecuona’s commitment

Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team Principal Stefano Cecconi said the decision to retain Lecuona was based on more than just his results on track.

According to Cecconi, the Spanish rider impressed the team from the very beginning by adapting naturally to both the motorcycle and the working environment. He also praised Lecuona’s passion, dedication, and strong team spirit, describing the contract extension as an exciting opportunity to continue building towards even greater achievements.

Cecconi added that the team remains ambitious and is determined to continue fighting for the biggest results over the next two seasons.

Ducati Corse confident in future development

Luigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse, believes Lecuona has already shown he can unlock the full potential of the Ducati Panigale V4 R despite spending only a short time with the factory team.

He highlighted the Spaniard’s consistent development, technical understanding, and competitive approach as key reasons behind the contract renewal. Dall’Igna also noted that the current project provides a strong foundation for further progress and believes there is still significant room for improvement.

With continuity now secured through 2028, Ducati aims to continue refining every aspect of its WorldSBK programme while preparing to challenge for the championship in the coming seasons.

Lecuona eager to continue growing with Ducati

Lecuona expressed his delight after signing the new deal, saying that joining Aruba.it Racing – Ducati has transformed his career.

The Spaniard thanked both Aruba and Ducati for placing their trust in him once again and said he is excited about building a long-term future with the team.

Despite securing his future, Lecuona stressed that his immediate priority remains the current season. He hopes to finish the 2026 campaign strongly by continuing to improve, enjoying the racing, and fighting for even better results in the remaining rounds.

The contract extension gives both Ducati and Lecuona stability heading into the next two WorldSBK seasons, with both sides aiming to build on an already impressive partnership and establish themselves as consistent title contenders.
