Automechanika Kuala Lumpur (AMKL) 2026 once again proved Malaysia’s important role in the regional automotive landscape as the 15th edition of the event successfully brought together more than 317 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently.

In an environment where the ASEAN automotive industry is increasingly driven by electrification, green mobility and digital supply chains, AMKL 2026 emerges not just as an ordinary trade exhibition, but as a strategic platform that opens up space for cross-sector and cross-border collaboration.

Officiated by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Haji Habibollah, this year’s theme which focuses on building synergies between automotive mobility solutions, OEMs and the aftermarket sector reflects the major changes taking place in the global automotive industry.

Malaysia is increasingly emerging as a major automotive player in ASEAN

Event organiser, Messe Frankfurt, stated that Malaysia is now not only participating in the growth of the ASEAN automotive industry, but is increasingly playing a key role in determining its future direction.

According to Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd General Manager, Fiona Chiew, Automechanika Kuala Lumpur has evolved from a conventional trade event to a strategic industry platform.

“Malaysia is increasingly emerging as a meeting point for discussions on the future of mobility, as a result of carefully planned policies, strong market growth and the willingness of local industry to lead,” she said.

Malaysia’s importance in the regional automotive industry was also strengthened when the country overtook Indonesia as ASEAN’s largest automotive market for the first half of 2025. National manufacturers such as Perodua and Proton contributed 63 percent of the country’s total vehicle sales.

Electrification and smart mobility are the main focus

One of the main focuses of AMKL 2026 is the rapid development of EV technology and digital transformation in the automotive industry.

The Automotive Mobility Solutions zone was one of the highlights of the event with an emphasis on electrification, green mobility, smart manufacturing and digital supply chains. It showcased how the industry is now moving towards more sustainable and data-driven technology adoption.

In addition, the participation of global industry players such as Brembo, Launch Tech, TUHU Car Care, TecAlliance and Leoch Battery also reflects the international industry’s confidence in Malaysia as a regional automotive and manufacturing hub.

The exhibition hall, which focuses on categories such as Parts & Components, Electrics & Electronics, Diagnostics & Repair and Body & Paint, also shows how the automotive sector is now increasingly evolving towards the integration of smart technology and green energy solutions.

Industry conference discusses future of ASEAN mobility

Complementing the main exhibition, the Automotive Mobility Solutions Conference brings together manufacturers, policymakers and technology experts to discuss key issues including electrification, autonomous vehicles, ESG, sustainable manufacturing and the use of AI and IoT technologies in industrial operations.

The conference also opened up opportunities for collaboration between the regulatory, financial, logistics and research sectors to help companies understand the challenges and opportunities in the automotive transformation era.

At the same time, Automotive Service Marketplace highlights the evolution of the aftermarket sector which is now increasingly professional and driven by digital technology.

The demand for skilled workers in EV and hybrid maintenance was also among the key issues highlighted through the live Collision Repair Training demonstration, highlighting the importance of talent development in the industry of the future.

autoFEST@KL combines automotive culture and entertainment

Apart from the business aspect, AMKL 2026 also brings a more relaxed approach through autoFEST@KL which combines automotive culture, entertainment and lifestyle.

Among the activities taking place include classic and JDM car exhibitions, motorsport and e-sports competitions, EMMA Malaysia audio and modification competitions, as well as the Outdoor, Camping and Caravan Zone.

This combination of industry and automotive community elements helps bring Automechanika Kuala Lumpur closer to enthusiasts and industry players from various backgrounds.

Malaysia is on a solid track for ASEAN’s automotive future

Entering its 15th edition, now Automechanika Kuala Lumpur is not only seen as a reflection of the current state of the industry, but also as a reflection of the future of ASEAN mobility.

As the region rapidly moves towards electrification and smart mobility, Malaysia is becoming increasingly established as a strategic hub connecting global manufacturers, local industry players and new technologies for the coming decades.
