The 2026 MotoGP season continues its early momentum as the paddock heads to the United States for round three at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. After two rounds in Asia and South America, the championship now moves to North America, bringing a new set of challenges on one of the longest and most demanding circuits on the calendar.
But obviously, all the focus will be on the developing rivalry between Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez. Bezzecchi arrives in Austin as the championship leader after a strong start to the season, continuing his momentum from late 2025 together with the Aprilia Racing Team. Meanwhile, legendary Marquez returns to a circuit where he has historically dominated, having secured multiple wins at COTA.

Bezzecchi however acknowledges the tough challenge posed by Marquez as he seeks a unique MotoGP record of five consecutive victories. The Italian rider faces a significant hurdle, stating that Marquez “has more wins here than I do in my career,” despite the fact Bezzecchi actually holds one more career win than the Spanish rider total at COTA.
With both riders in competitive machinery, the Texas round could see their first major head-to-head battle of the season.
Aprilia Builds Early Advantage
Aprilia Racing currently leads the standings, marking one of its strongest starts in MotoGP. Jorge Martin sits second overall following a consistent run of results, while Pedro Acosta remains within close range after a solid performance in Brazil.
Fabio Di Giannantonio, now the leading Ducati rider in the standings, also heads to Austin with confidence after securing a podium in the previous round.
Rising Names and Key Performers
Talking about other names and rookies, among the standout performers so far isAi Ogura, who has consistently finished inside the top five and continues to impress in his debut season for Trackhouse Racing.
Other riders looking to step up include Alex Marquez, Brad Binder, and Franco Morbidelli, all aiming to bounce back following mixed results in Brazil, a circuit that presented numerous challenges and lacked recorded data at the time.
Meanwhile, several other big names are still searching for stronger results. Pecco Bagnaia, last year’s COTA winner, has yet to find his rhythm this season and will be hoping the American round offers a turning point. The Ducati rider crashed during the last BrazillianGP and for this round, he hopes for something good.
“I always enjoy arriving in Austin. I like the atmosphere, the track, the vibes of the United States. The track is beautiful, unique, technical in the riding sections, and very, very physically demanding. In 2025, we did very well here with the podium in the SPRINT and then the victory in Sunday’s race. A wonderful memory that motivates us to work even harder to get back to the top positions,” Pecco said in a statement.

At Honda HRC Castrol, Joan Mir showed promising pace despite setbacks, while Johann Zarco currently leads Honda’s charge in the standings. Also, for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP, both Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins have scored points,
Rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu continues adapting to the premier class. Being world champion in WSBK means a lot but in another championship, he also hope for a better outcome. “It‘s another important weekend for me because everything is still new in MotoGP, and especially here at COTA. I have some experience from the Rookies Cup, but riding here with a MotoGP bike is a completely different challenge,” he said. “My goal is to keep progressing, session by session, and do my best for the team.”
With no recent MotoGP reference data from Brazil and momentum still forming across the grid, COTA presents another unpredictable challenge.
