The second day of the Official Sepang MotoGP Test concluded at 6 PM local time, with VR46’s new recruit Franco Morbidelli setting the pace. Riding last year’s Ducati GP24, Morbidelli clinched a blistering lap time of 1m57.210s just an hour into the session, securing the top spot on the timesheets.

His time, which would have earned a front-row start at last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix, remained unchallenged throughout the day despite efforts from the field. Morbidelli finished 0.114s ahead of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, who continued to show strong form by securing second place.

Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP champion, set his best time early in the morning, clocking a 1m57.324s. He was followed by the Gresini Ducati duo of Alex Marquez and rookie Fermin Aldeguer, with Aldeguer once again emerging as the fastest of the three newcomers.

Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia made a late charge, climbing to fifth with a 1m57.652s in the final 30 minutes, despite a low-side crash at Turn 15 earlier in the day. Honda’s Joan Mir also improved late in the session, jumping to sixth with a 1m57.791s, pushing KTM’s Pedro Acosta to seventh.

Pramac Yamaha’s Miguel Oliveira finished eighth, while Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi secured ninth place as the last rider to break the 1m58s barrier with a 1m57.995s. Jack Miller rounded out the top 10, completing a strong day for Pramac and Yamaha. Meanwhile, six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez had a quiet day, finishing 14th with a time 1.2s off Morbidelli’s pace, likely opting for a cautious approach.

Notably, reigning champion Jorge Martin, Raul Fernandez, and Fabio di Giannantonio were absent from Day 2, having returned to Europe for surgeries following crashes on Day 1 Wednesday. To compensate for the lost track time, Aprilia and Ducati deployed their test riders, Lorenzo Savadori and Michele Pirro, to gather crucial data on their new machines.

As the test progresses, teams and riders will continue to fine-tune their setups on the last day tomorrow, ahead of the 2025 season. Morbidelli’s impressive performance on the GP24 highlights his potential, while Quartararo’s consistency underscores Yamaha’s progress.

With only one more day of testing remaining, the focus will remain on maximizing performance and gathering valuable insights before the season opener.
