BMW Motorrad continues to redefine the boundaries of heritage motorcycling with the introduction of the BMW R 12 S. This striking addition to their Heritage range pays homage to the legendary BMW R 90 S, which in 1973 revolutionized sport touring motorcycles with its bold design and outstanding performance.

The Legacy of the R 90 S

The original BMW R 90 S was a trailblazer in every sense. Introduced in 1973, it boasted a powerful 67-hp engine capable of reaching speeds of 200 km/h. Designed under the visionary guidance of Hans A. Muth, the R 90 S was the world’s first production motorcycle to feature a handlebar-mounted fairing optimized for aerodynamics. This distinctive feature, coupled with its vibrant “Daytona Orange” paint scheme and racing successes, cemented the R 90 S as a cultural icon.

“The defining design elements of our R 12 S include the handlebar-mounted cockpit fairing with the tinted windshield, the seat with contrast stitching, and the Lavaorange metallic paint finish. Attention to detail abounds in the R 12 S, with features such as brushed and clear-lacquered aluminium surfaces. It also includes a red-highlighted “S” on the side covers, adding a bold and distinctive visual touch.
