Richard Hammond pays tribute to the show, long way round during this lockdown from home around his courtyard. The show, LWR featured BMW GS, however, Hammond performs his version of the show on a classic BMW R52!
Most of us are stuck at home either under lockdown or movement control order because of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Well, this didn’t stop Richard Hammond from paying a tribute to Long Way Round. The show, LWR featured Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, where they travelled around the globe on BMW GS. However, Hammond takes his version of the show to a whole new level by doing the tribute on a classic 1929 BMW R52.
The catch? Well, Hammond makes this hilarious tribute “long way round” his courtyard during this lockdown period while working from home. Erm…also, our man crashes the bike towards the end. If you are one of our regular followers, you might have seen our coverage on the BMW R32. The R52 is the refined version of the R32 years later. Just like the BMW R32, the BMW R52 are pretty rare too! and of course highly collectable therefore come with a hefty price tag.
Audio throughout the video is a bit off mostly because of the 486cc flat-twin boxer. While he goes on the adventure he makes a few stops at a parked Porsche 911T, British Sunbeam motorcycle and Opel Kadett (Oliver from Top gear Botswana special). Talking about motorcycles, the Sunbeam is from the same era as the BMW R52. Both have no rear suspension, however, the sunbeam has a single-cylinder engine with a total loss oiling system (Oil is ejected once it’s used). Also, the BMW R52 has a switch for the headlamps, whereas for the Sunbeam has an oil lamp!
