Recent reports seem to suggest that American top gun Harley-Davidson will build a new research and development facility in Northern California in order to support its future product portfolio which will include the company’s first complete line of electric motorcycles.
In case you missed out, Harley-Davidson will be launching its first ever electric motorcycle called “LiveWire” in 2019. Additional models including smaller and more accessible product options will be rolled out through 2022.
The new facility will be based in California and will serve as a satellite of the Willie G. Davidson Product Development Facility in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The new R&D center will focus on electric vehicle and may expand to an increased range of advanced technologies.
“This new R&D facility in the heart of Silicon Valley will help us deliver on those plans and demonstrate our commitment to lead the electrification of the sport,” said Harley-Davidson CEO Matt Levatich.
The company has already begun recruiting top talent in electrical, mechanical and software engineering.
