It’s the end of a great career! Dani Pedrosa has just announced that this will be his last season, and even though he had some good options to continue racing in MotoGP beyond 2018, the Spanish rider decided to stop racing.
Pedrosa was left without a ride after Repsol Honda renewed contract with Marc Marquez, and a few weeks ago hired Jorge Lorenzo. Almost at 33 years of age, Dani Pedrosa is one of the greatest MotoGP riders, having won 3 world titles in 125 and 250 cc (twice) before moving up to MotoGP.
He has been loyal to Honda since is debut in Grand Prix racing.
Dani Pedrosa numbers show that he really is a champion, even though he’s never won the MotoGP title: he has been racing for 18 seasons, started 285 races, won 54 times, got on the podium for 153 times and been 3 times World Champion, as we already mentioned.
“It’s a hard decision because this is the sport I love but despite having good opportunities to keep racing, I feel like I don’t live racing with the same intensity as before. I achieved way more than I expected and I’m very, very proud of what I’ve done in the sport. I’ve fulfilled my dream of becoming a racer,” said Dani Pedrosa in an emotional press conference today before the German GP this weekend.
