After seeing Josh Hill beating Ricky Carmichael – also known as “The GOAT” – during the final night of the Geneva Supercross 2017, held in December, with Hill riding an electric Redshift while Carmichael was riding a Suzuki RM-Z450 (combustion), Alta Motors decided it was time for them to tackle bigger challenges.
And there’s nothing much bigger than the famous Erzberg Rodeo, known as the hardest enduro race on Earth.
For this year’s event, Alta Motors decided they will enter the race with their almost-stock Redshift MXR bikes, electric of course, and the team have signed two riders to face the challenge of trying to reach the end of the event: Ty Tremaine and Lyndon Poskitt.
The Redshift MXR bikes the team will use will only receive minor suspension tweaks and tuning, and other modifications include the use of pull straps.
The Erzberg Rodeo is held in the small town of Eisenerz, Austria, and it’s a gruesome enduro race that it’s part of the Red Bull Hard Enduro series. The Erzberg Rodeo is a 35 km race through the Austrian hills and an abandoned quarry, also known as The Iron Mountain.
More than 2000 riders attempt to qualify for 500 starting slots in the main event. Only a small handful go on to finish the race within the four-hour time limit. In 2017, only 25 riders completed the race, and in 2016, only 9.
This year Alta Motors is making history and will become the first manufacturer to try and conquer the Iron Mountain on electric motorcycles, and we can’t wait to see if the electric Redshift MXR bikes will be able to face the combustion bikes!
This is yet another proof that electric motorcycles are becoming better all the time, and they now try to beat combustion bikes on some of the hardest races in the World.
