Sepang International Circuit (SIC) vows to push Hafizh Syahrin up to MotoGP

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) vows to push Hafizh Syahrin up to MotoGP

The Malaysian Grand Prix has closed its curtains yesterday and it was certainly a glorious weekend for Ducati considering they bagged a one-two for the first time this year.

Moving on the Malaysia, the centre stage of the country’s motorsport buzz, Sepang International Circuit (SIC), has been expressing its intentions to help local race Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah step up a notch to join the MotoGP.

23 year-old Hafizh has been competing under the Moto2 banner for Petronas Raceline since 2014 and will be taking up the seat in Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto2 team next year for his final season. Despite this, SIC, the body that manages Petronas Sprinta, is more concerned on preparing the young rider for MotoGP instead.

“We have expressed our interest with Dorna (MotoGP rights holders) and have also discussed the matter with a number of MotoGP teams this past week,” said chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali as quoted from the New Straits Times.

“We have to start to process early as the slots for 2018 have already been filled up.”

“There are still slots available for new satellite teams in 2019 and we are weighing our options”.

“Obviously our Malaysian riders are strong in the wet, but we also need them to do well in dry races.

“Hafizh has done well (in a mixed weather race) here at Sepang. This is what we want.

“I believe Hafizh will do better next year as we will be providing him with a better bike and mechanics.”

Hafizh managed to cap his run at sixth place in the Moto2 race at the Malaysian GP yesterday.
