A new inline-four from China that’s ready to shake up Asia’s middleweight scene. This Kove 450R brings a lightweight feel, smooth power, and everyday practicality at a price riders can actually reach.

The recent launch of Kove Moto in Malaysia has stirred plenty of excitement, especially among local inline-four motorcycle fans. And honestly, who wouldn’t be curious? We’ve seen the hype before with the screaming Kawasaki ZX-25R, a bike that gained a cult following across Southeast Asia.

Now, the landscape is heating up again. QJMotor’s SRK 250RD is expected soon through MForce Bike Holdings, while the ZX-4RR continues to make waves overseas. Honda, too, seems to be joining the game with trademarks for the CBR400R Four and CBR500R Four, targeting both regional and global markets.

Meanwhile, CFMoto’s 450SR/450NK has already proven that China’s new wave of manufacturers can play in the big leagues. So naturally, when I got to test ride the Kove 450R, I was curious, could this be the next serious contender in the middleweight class? After a short ride, I have to say, it’s a very promising machine.

First Impressions: Familiar Looks, Solid Build

At first glance, the Kove 450R looks strikingly familiar, like a blend between CFMoto’s 450NK and QJMotor’s SRK 400. The rear tail light and seat unit look similar to the 450NK, while the frame hints at the SRK’s design. Maybe it’s just coincidence, maybe not,  but the build quality feels solid, not flimsy at all.

The front end is sharp, highlighted by a modern LED headlamp and a TFT LCD meter panel that’s clear and responsive. Seat height is set at 795 mm, perfect for Malaysian riders of various heights. It rolls on CST S1 tyres (120/70 front, 160/60 rear), with 41mm USD forks up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the back,  a respectable setup for the segment.

Riding Experience: Light, Torquey, and Confident

Throwing a leg over the 450R, the first thing I noticed was how accessible it felt. My feet were flat on the ground where it is ideal for daily riders or even smaller-framed riders, including women.

Hit the ignition, and the inline-four comes alive with a smooth, refined growl. It’s not too loud (well, thanks to Euro 4 compliance), but still satisfying. The clutch is light, the throttle response crisp, and the power delivery? yes, silky smooth yet surprisingly strong.

With 65.3 hp on tap, it pulls confidently through the revs. Before I even hit fourth gear, I glanced down at the TFT, 134 km/h already. It’s fast, effortless, and stable. The engine feels well-balanced and gives you that addictive four-cylinder buzz without being intimidating.

Handling, Suspension and Braking

The handling is sharp and predictable. Power delivery is linear, not jumpy, making it beginner-friendly yet rewarding for experienced riders.

The Yu-An suspension, developed by Chongqing-based YUAN Intelligent Suspension, performs better than I expected. Kove shares damping data from their racing centre in Spain, and it shows. The ride feels planted and composed even through bumpy corners.

Braking is handled by Taisco, a Chinese brake manufacturer that supplies components to Kove and other brands, including those used in Dakar Rally testing. Brakes bite confidently, ABS works smoothly, and traction control (TCS) adds an extra layer of confidence. It’s understandable why attempting a wheelie with Traction Control System (TCS) engaged felt awkward.

Even the stock CST Migra S1 tyres hold their own well during lean angles. Cornering feels natural and stable, perfect for daily commutes or weekend BTIC runs.

Performance and Specifications

Priced at RM33,888, the Kove 450R makes a bold statement as the most affordable inline-four streetfighter in its class. Under the tank sits a 443cc inline-four engine producing 65.3 hp at 12,000 rpm and 40 Nm at 9,000 rpm, with a curb weight of just 164 kg. According to Kove, the bike can reach 205 km/h.

On the other side, you get dual 300mm front discs, a rear single disc, and all the essentials like ABS, traction control, LED projector lights, TFT screen with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and two ride modes (Eco and Sport). Oh, and there’s even launch control, built right in.

The Verdict: A Solid Daily and Weekend Machine

After my short but meaningful ride, I can confidently say that the Kove 450R is a solid, well-rounded bike. It’s smooth, stable, powerful, and surprisingly refined for its price point.

It might not yet match the polish of Japanese rivals, but Kove has nailed the essentials such as performance, accessibility, and design,  all wrapped in an affordable and exciting package.

For new riders, it’s approachable. For experienced ones, it’s an engaging second bike or daily commuter. And for everyone, it’s a sign that the middleweight inline-four scene is about to get a lot more interesting.
