Azroy Hakeem Anuar of HONDA RACING MALAYSIA delivered a sensational last-lap move to clinch victory in Race 2 of the MSBK1000 A category at Round 2 of the 2025 AEON CREDIT MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship, held at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit.
From the very start, it was clear fans were in for a fierce battle. Azroy’s teammate, Muhd Helmi Azman, grabbed the holeshot off the line, while Md Amir Izzat Rozali of the HORIZON RACING TEAM crashed out early. Azroy quickly took over the lead, with Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of HONG LEONG YAMAHA MALAYSIA hot on his heels. Helmi dropped to third, ahead of AMI SUZUKI MOTORSPORT’s Adam Norrodin and Lachlan Epis from SAVITAR TEAM ASIA.
The front two, Azroy and Kasma, locked into a relentless dogfight, trading fastest laps as early as Lap 3. Kasma set a 2’06.736s lap in pursuit, only for Azroy to respond with an even quicker 2’06.548s while clocking a blistering 288.8 km/h down the straight. Helmi, meanwhile, retook third from Adam and continued to stalk the leaders as the laps counted down.
The tension built toward a thrilling climax. On Lap 9, Kasma managed to edge past Azroy, setting the stage for a final-lap showdown. Azroy lunged at Turn 1 but was immediately repassed. Helmi closed the gap, with less than a second separating the top three as they entered the final sector.
Then came the decisive moment. At the last turn of the last lap, Azroy found his opening and made it count, sweeping past Kasma and charging to the chequered flag in 21’14.641s. Kasma was just 0.230s behind in second, with Helmi a further 0.596s back in third.
“During the race, I just tried to push myself to go beyond my limits,” said Azroy. “I treated this as an extra intensive training session where I could test different approaches to prepare myself for the bigger stage, which is the ARRC in Japan next week. I’ll make full use of the experience I gained here.”
