The Malaysia Autoshow 2025 saw another exciting entry from local motorcycle brand MODA, which previewed the Shifter 400X scooter. While the model was first revealed in 2023, this marks its official debut on Malaysian soil, giving enthusiasts a closer look ahead of its expected launch later this year.
MODA currently offers only one model in the local market, the Sporter S, priced at RM17,888. The upcoming Shifter 400X is set to expand MODA’s presence with a larger, more powerful offering aimed at riders seeking performance and practicality in a bold new design.
According to MODA, the scooter is undergoing several adjustments to better suit the Malaysian market. This may include revisions to its suspension setup and power delivery to meet local expectations and riding conditions.
At its core, the Shifter 400X is powered by a 333cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled SOHC engine that produces a claimed 29 hp at 7,000 rpm and 33.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm, uses a CVT gearbox with belt drive to the rear wheel.
The chassis is equipped with a 14-inch front wheel wrapped in 120/70 rubber and a 13-inch rear wheel with a 150/70 tyre. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks in the front and twin rear shock absorbers with remote gas reservoirs.
Braking is managed by single hydraulic discs front and rear, paired with a two-channel ABS system. A traction control system (TCS), which can be toggled via the right handlebar switchgear.
Rider convenience is well catered for, with features including a 13.1-litre fuel tank, a TFT-LCD digital display, USB charging socket, and keyless ignition. For storage, the Shifter 400X offers an underseat compartment and twin glove boxes in the front cowl. A manually adjustable windshield rounds off the scooter’s touring-ready features.
With its bold styling, practical features, and midsize performance, the MODA Shifter 400X is shaping up to be a strong contender in the growing Malaysian maxi-scooter segment. More details, including pricing and final specifications, are expected at its official launch later this year.
