Bee Group, specialising in urban mobility and freight delivery, is partnering with Chinese manufacturer Tembo Electronical Technology for an electric mobility project in Cameroon. With an RM4.5 million (CFA610 million) investment, the pilot phase begins in July 2025, introducing 40 electric motorcycles and charging stations.

Pilot Phase: Electrifying Cameroon’s Urban Transport

Starting in June 2025, 40 electric motorcycles will be deployed in Douala, Yaoundé, Bertoua, and Bafoussam, with 10 units per city. Each motorcycle will come with four batteries. Two will be in use while the other two recharge at stations set up in TotalEnergies and Ola Energy locations. Each charging station will hold 12 batteries, ensuring a continuous energy supply.

Expanding to Local Production

Following the pilot phase, Bee Group plans to import 100 additional motorcycles and aims to start local production by 2026. We can expect this initiative to create local jobs, reduce import costs, and transfer technology to Cameroon. Patrick Timani, CEO and co-founder of Bee Group emphasised the project’s goal of boosting economic growth and establishing Cameroon as a hub for electric mobility in Africa.

Government Support and Financial Incentives

The Cameroonian government is backing the project, alongside 3S Motors and TotalEnergies. Under the 2025 finance law, electric vehicles are exempt from the 12.5% excise duty. On the other hand, a 50% tax reduction applies to new motorcycles, batteries, and charging stations for the next 24 months. These incentives significantly reduce the cost of adopting electric vehicles and promote sustainable mobility solutions.

Environmental Impact and Urban Mobility Transformation

Beyond cost savings, the initiative aims to reduce transport fares for passengers and lower pollution levels. In Douala, where mototaxis accounts for 61% of all trips, this shift is expected to significantly improve urban mobility. Bee Group envisions a sustainable transition in urban transport. This would decrease reliance on fossil fuels while enhancing economic opportunities for local riders.

Future Expansion Across Africa

Following its launch in Cameroon, Bee Group plans to expand the project to other African nations. By combining innovation, job creation, and environmental responsibility, this initiative marks a significant step toward a greener and more cost-effective urban transport system across the continent.
