Yamaha has officially announced a groundbreaking expansion into the intermediate class by launching the Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team, set to compete in the Moto2 World Championship starting in 2025. This announcement comes alongside Yamaha’s recent collaboration with the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team, which will contest in the premier class next season.

The establishment of a Moto2 team marks a strategic move by Yamaha and Pramac to strengthen their foothold in talent development, creating a seamless pathway for rising stars from lower racing categories to MotoGP. The new initiative ties closely with Yamaha’s acclaimed bLU cRU programme, which focuses on nurturing young talent and helping them ascend the racing ladder.

The Moto2 team will debut with a dynamic rider duo namely, Tony Arbolino, 2023 Moto2 Vice Champion, and Izan Guevara, 2022 Moto3 World Champion. Both riders are set to test the team’s machinery during the official Moto2 winter test on February 7-8, 2025, at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

Arbolino, who has been a strong contender in MotoGP rumours, expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter. “It‘s an honour to join Pramac and Yamaha in their new Moto2 project. I always loved Yamaha for what they represent as a brand and their history. I’ll do my best to deliver top results, and winning the Moto2 title is our goal,” said Arbolino.

Meanwhile, Guevara, who reunites with Pramac team manager Gino Borsoi, echoed his excitement for the new venture. “I‘m very motivated for this change. Pramac and Yamaha are giving me an incredible opportunity to grow and achieve success. Rejoining Gino Borsoi feels like coming home. I‘m confident this collaboration will bring amazing results,” said Guevara.

While the official chassis supplier has not yet been confirmed, Boscoscuro, the manufacturer behind Ai Ogura’s 2023 Moto2 title, is rumoured to be a strong contender. This partnership could provide the team with a competitive edge in its debut season.

Speaking on the announcement, Lin Jarvis, Yamaha Racing’s Managing Director, emphasized the strategic importance of this project. “The creation of the Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team reflects Yamaha’s dedication to nurturing young talents and guiding them through the racing ranks. With Tony and Izan, we have an outstanding rider line-up to kick-start this journey and strengthen Yamaha’s long-term ambitions in MotoGP.”

The move to Moto2 signals Yamaha’s determination to not only reclaim dominance in MotoGP but also invest in the development of future champions. This project cements Yamaha and Pramac’s commitment to building a solid foundation in motorcycle racing across all levels.
