Royal Enfield Unveils the 2025 Bear 650: A Retro Scrambler with Modern Flair

The motorcycle’s design takes heavy inspiration from the 1960s scrambler era, highlighted by features such as a high-mounted “249” racing plate that nods to the ‘Fast’ Eddie Mulder’s race number.

Royal Enfield has launched the 2025 Bear 650, a retro-inspired scrambler that marries vintage aesthetics with contemporary performance. Named after the historic Big Bear Run desert race in California, the motorcycle pays tribute to Royal Enfield’s racing legacy, particularly “Fast” Eddie Mulder’s 1960 victory on a Royal Enfield 500 single.

According to its official website, the Bear 650 is powered by the brand’s acclaimed 648cc parallel-twin engine, which is shared with the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. However, the engine has been fine-tuned to deliver a more torque-rich performance suited to its scrambler nature, offering 46 hp at 7,150 rpm and a robust 56.5 Nm of torque at 5,150 rpm. This adjustment provides a better low-end grunt, enhancing its capability on trails and rugged terrain.

The spoked wheels measure 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear, wrapped in bespoke MRF dual-purpose tyres, which complement its off-road aspirations. The 2-1 exhaust system not only enhances its scrambler styling but also improves ground clearance for adventurous riding.

Additional retro elements include a bench-style seat, high and wide handlebars, and a kicked-up rear loop, all of which ensure a commanding riding position and versatility whether seated or standing on the pegs.

Balancing its vintage charm with modern functionality, the Bear 650 features full LED lighting—the first such inclusion in Royal Enfield’s 650cc lineup—alongside Showa suspension with a USD Separate Function Big Piston Fork that enhances ride quality and front-end stability.

The Royal Enfield Bear 650 boasts a robust braking setup to match its scrambler persona. At the front, it features a hydraulic disc brake with a single 320mm ventilated disc paired with a twin-piston floating calliper, while the rear is equipped with a 270mm ventilated disc and a single-piston floating calliper. Enhancing safety and control, the braking system is supported by dual-channel ABS with an option to switch off the ABS at the rear for off-road flexibility.

Adding to its modern features, the Bear 650 comes standard with full LED lighting and a 4-inch Tripper Dash. This round TFT display offers phone connectivity, full map navigation powered by Google Maps, and media controls, ensuring seamless route guidance akin to the Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450. Additionally, the bike also includes a USB 2.0 Type-C port delivering 5V/2A output for on-the-go device charging.

Weighing 216 kg and carrying 13.6 litres of fuel, the Bear 650 is suitable for urban commutes and off-road trails alike. The spacious riding triangle and frame modifications further improve comfort for extended journeys.

Joining Royal Enfield’s growing 650cc portfolio—which includes the Interceptor, Continental GT, Super Meteor, and Shotgun—the Bear 650 offers a scrambler-inspired option for riders seeking a blend of classic styling, modern technology, and versatile performance.

With its nod to a storied racing past and rugged yet refined design, the Royal Enfield Bear 650 is set to capture the hearts of enthusiasts who value both timeless aesthetics and an adventurous spirit.
