Last week on iM Cubaholic, we had a look at the custom Honda Super Cub C110i Scrambler from Thailand. As for this week, we are travelling further east to Japan to show you one of the most bizarre custom Honda Cub builds. So wondering what this build is? Well, it’s a Morgan three-wheeler inspired handmade custom Honda Super Cub build that we came across some time ago.
The Honda Super Cub Trike
We have come across numerous custom Honda Super Cub builds that had been turned into other bikes but we belive chances of you coming across a build like this is close to none. This custom trike was designed and built by the YouTuber, MORI TV. Based in Japan, MORI TV has a lot of trail bike and custom motorcycle build videos but what caught our attention was this Morgan 3-wheeler inspired custom Honda Super Cub build.
Believe it or not, MORI’s custom Honda Super Cub Trike is actually based on a Honda Super Cub C50. Before we get into the details, just remember everything from the chassis to bodywork is built from the ground up!
The Build
To begin with, the trike’s chassis and suspension components/links are entirely built from scratch by Mori himself. On top of this, almost every single component from the C50 has been transferred and utilized in this Trike. The build started its life as a fully handmade rolling chassis. At this initial stage, Mori used stock C50 absorbers to suspended the chassis and components; which was later replaced by a set of aftermarket shocks along the way.
Furthermore, in the case of the front wheels, Mori used custom lower arm, suspension rods/links and steering links to connect a pair of Honda Super Cub C50 front wheels with stock hubs and drum brakes. As for the rear, Mori took the whole C50 swingarm with absorbers, brake and sprockets, then mounted it directly to the rolling chassis.
As for the engine, Mori placed the 50cc engine from the C50 at the front and used chain as final-drive to drive the rear wheel. In the case of the brakes; the Trike makes use of the 3 drum brakes from the stock C50 at the front and rear. Moreover, the C50 fuel tank is put to use in the trike too!
Wondering about the body panels? The Morgan 3-wheeler inspired bodywork started off with the cardboard template of the body panels.
After which he used used hand-foaming technique to cut and hammer aluminium sheet to take up the shape; which was then coupled to the rolling chassis.
On top of this, to blend in with the Morgan theme; Mori added in a wooden Nari steering wheel, leather fabric seat, functional front grill, side-mounted C50 exhaust, Morgan style headlamps, turn signals and side mirrors to give the trike the British Morgan touch.
