New electric bike firm Fly Free unveils classic-looking SMART Desert

New electric bike firm Fly Free unveils classic-looking SMART Desert

There is no doubt that the electric motorcycle industry is growing at a steady pace with the likes of Zero Motorcycles, Curtiss Motorcycles and even Harley-Davidson. E-moto offerings have taken a toll on the two-wheeler world and hopping on the bandwagon this time is a new American company called Fly Free.

Based in Long Beach, California, the firm is the latest firm to step foot into the electric motorcycle market. The firm is preparing their own line of three new electric bikes with non-electric motorcycle stylings, known as the SMART line of bikes.

The first model is the SMART Desert, which was inspired by scrambler-styled bikes during the 50s and 60s. The appearances are rather stripped down and prioritized efficiency and speed.

The design exerts a much more traditional and vintage vibe compared to the modern electric bikes. The bike will be available in two models. The entry-level model will have a top speed of 40 mph (64 km/h) and range of 50 miles (80 km), whereas the higher performance model will have a top speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) with a range of 100 miles (161 km).

The speeds will come in three riding profiles, which are Eco, City and Speed. The power is supplied by a mid-drive motor in order to maintain its classic style.

The bike comes with a high-reaching handlebar, long leather saddle and dual rear coilover suspension.  It also has a USB charging and an Android/iOS app for phone integration.

Not to mention, the battery of the bike is removable and bikers will have to charge up on their own 110V outlet, which will consume up to 8 hours for a full charge.

Prices of the bike have yet to be announced but stay tuned for more information!
