He is a three-time World Superbike champion and a true legend of the sport, but this past weekend Troy Bayliss continued to build on his legendary status by winning Race 1 of the Australian Superbike Championship round at Hidden Valley circuit.
At 49 years of age, Bayliss had to wait 10 years to win again – his last victory was in World Superbike race in Portimão in 2008 when he secured his third WSBK title – and since his return to racing in Australia’s Superbike championship he has been put through a rigorous physical training to make him fit again for racing at the highest level.
As usual Troy Bayliss rides a Ducati, in this case a 1299 Panigale Final Edition prepared by his own team, and he’s still in contention to get the Australian title being in third position in the standings, 157 points, while the leader Troy Herfoss has 205,5.
In Race 2 he was also in contention to win the race, but a technical problem with the Ducati Panigale made him lose time and Troy could only finish seventh.
