MotoGP – Lorenzo attacks Marquez over the Termas Clash

MotoGP – Lorenzo attacks Marquez over the Termas Clash

April 19, 2018

Jorge Lorenzo is the latest rider to speak about the “Termas Clash”, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez

Even though we’re only a few hours away from the start of the third round of the 2018 MotoGP season, with riders and teams already at the Circuit of The Americas for the Americas GP, what happened at the Argentina GP is still making the headlines.

This time it’s Jorge Lorenzo, Ducati factory rider, who spoke about the famous “Termas Clash”, between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez.

The Spanish rider was invited to make an appearance at a Spanish TV show called El Hormiguero, as a way to promote his new book “What I’ve learned until I’m 30”, but the conversation quickly changed to the controversy of how Marquez riding style is affecting the other riders on track.

Lorenzo accused Marc Marquez of excessive aggressiveness: “Marquez is a super rider, he’s won four titles in the last five years, but I think we could have avoided all this if he received more severe penalties. I myself, in the first year in 250 (2005), was a kamikaze rider. I was very aggressive and when I saw a gap, I always tried to enter. In the Japanese Grand Prix I was fighting for second place with Dani Pedrosa and Alex De Angelis and I wanted to get second at all costs. I touched Dani in a corner and in the next one I tried to overcome both, dropping De Angelis. The race direction penalized me, I had to skip a Grand Prix and, from that moment on, I was no crazier or kamikaze. Any rider doesn’t want to skip a race, just as any soccer player doesn’t want to skip a match after a red card. It all depends on the referees of the MotoGP”.

It’s interesting to see what Jorge Lorenzo thinks about all this, because Lorenzo had problems with Valentino Rossi in the past while they were riding for Yamaha, and because Jorge Lorenzo shows no problems speaking about his compatriot Marc Marquez.

On another note regarding what happened after the Argentinian GP, Vito Ippolito, International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) president, also spoke about Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi.

The FIM president didn’t like to see Marquez and Rossi making harsh comments about the “Termas Clash”, and promises that FIM will find a way to make riders feel that they can’t do what they want without being penalized

“We are working to perfect the regulations in order to make the pilots feel that there is an authority over them. They must not feel abandoned to themselves. We did not like that Marc said he will continue to ride as he has always done, as well as we did not like that post on the social networks of Valentino where he wrote ‘a difficult race destroyed by a dangerous rider’. We must not foment the hearts of the fans. Both must be calmed”.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
