Fermin Aldeguer has suffered a major setback just weeks before the start of the new MotoGP season, after sustaining a serious leg injury during a training accident in Valencia.

The Gresini Racing rider fractured the shaft of his left femur while training ahead of the upcoming campaign. In a brief statement, Gresini Racing confirmed the extent of the injury and the next steps in his treatment.

“Fermin Aldeguer sustained a fracture to the shaft of his left femur during a training session in Valencia and is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow in Barcelona. More info to follow.”

The femur is the strongest bone in the human body, and medical experts note that fractures of this type typically require several months of recovery. As a result, Aldeguer now faces a challenging race against time to be fit for pre-season testing and the opening rounds of the championship.

The injury comes after a highly impressive rookie MotoGP season for the young Spaniard. Aldeguer was named Rookie of the Year and claimed his first MotoGP victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix, performances that earned him an upgrade to a newer Ducati machine for the upcoming season, raising expectations of regular podium contention.

Unfortunately, the crash has severely disrupted his winter preparations. While Gresini Racing has not disclosed full details of the incident, it is believed to have occurred at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia, a popular training venue for professional riders.

MotoGP’s first official pre-season test is scheduled to take place in Malaysia in early February, followed by another test in Thailand later in the month, before the season begins with the Thai Grand Prix. At this stage, it remains unclear whether Aldeguer will be fit enough to participate in any of these sessions.

The accident took place at the same circuit where reigning world champion Marc Márquez has recently been easing back into riding as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury, under the close watch of his Ducati team.
