Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), Malaysia’s national motorcycle Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), Malaysia’s national motorcycle manufacturer under the DRB-HICOM Group, has made history with the debut of the all-new Modenas Z15GT, its first fully Malaysian-developed supermoped.

The highly anticipated launch took place during the MotoGP Malaysia weekend at the Sepang International Circuit, showcasing Modenas’ growing engineering capabilities and ambitions in the regional two-wheeler market.

Entering the competitive 150cc underbone (kapchai) segment, the 2025 Modenas Z15GT is priced at RM8,288 (excluding road tax, insurance, and registration). Available in Graphite Grey, Nardo Grey, and Rosso Red, deliveries of the Z15GT to Modenas and Kawasaki authorised dealerships began on October 27, 2025.

Positioned against established rivals such as the Yamaha YZ15R, newly launched Honda RS-X Winner 150, and Suzuki Raider R150 Fi, the Z15GT arrives as a strong new contender in one of Malaysia’s most popular motorcycle categories.

Under the fairing, the Z15GT features a 149.5cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 16.76 hp at 9,500 rpm and 13.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive.

Braking duties are handled by single hydraulic discs at the front and rear, with single-channel ABS ensuring. Suspension components include conventional telescopic front forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Weighing in at 128 kg, the Z15GT carries 5.7 litres of fuel and offers a seat height of 780 mm. It rides on 17-inch wheels fitted with 90/80 front and 120/70 rear tyres.

Described as Modenas’ most advanced motorcycle to date, the Z15GT was developed entirely in-house by a team of 31 Malaysian engineers, designers, and technicians, with support from Kawasaki Motors Corporation (KMC). As part of the development programme, eight Malaysian engineers were trained by Kawasaki in Japan, while others underwent specialised engine design training in Austria, ensuring world-class technical standards.

Looking ahead, Modenas has set an ambitious target to sell 27,000 units of the Z15GT annually within Malaysia. The company also plans to expand exports between 2026 and 2030 to key international markets, including the Philippines, Greece, Türkiye, and Cambodia, positioning the Z15GT as a proud symbol of Malaysia’s growing motorcycle engineering prowess.

With the Z15GT, Modenas not only reinforces its position in the domestic market but also marks a new era of Malaysian innovation, performance, and self-reliance in motorcycle development.
