The Sertões 2025 caravan rolled into Alagoas on Friday, with Spanish rider Tosha Schareina of the Monster Energy Honda HRC team firmly in control of the standings. Following six gruelling stages, Schareina boasts an unofficial 48-minute lead in both the overall classification and Moto 1 category after notching up five consecutive stage victories aboard his Honda CRF 450 Rally.

Friday’s sixth stage saw competitors journey from Petrolina (PE) to Delmiro Gouveia (AL), covering 415 kilometres—280 of which were timed. Saturday’s penultimate leg will push riders through another 419 kilometres, including 235 km of special stages, before the rally concludes at Praia do Francês in Marechal Deodoro on Sunday.

The 33rd edition of the rally spans approximately 3,400 kilometres, with around 2,200 kilometres designated as special stages. The race kicked off in Goiânia (GO) and continues to test riders with its mix of terrain, high-speed sections, and navigational challenges.

A Demanding Day on the Road

Ruben Faria, General Manager of the Honda HRC team, noted the complexity of Friday’s stage: “Today was the most difficult in terms of navigation—very similar to Portuguese terrain with fast tracks and sandy stretches. Tosha opened the stage well, and with the second-placed rider facing mechanical issues, our lead has grown. Still, in rallying, nothing is certain until the final finish line.”

Focused and Fast

Reflecting on his performance, Schareina said the stage began more like an enduro, requiring a different rhythm: “I noticed at the refueling point that the other riders were closer than I expected, so I picked up the pace in the second half. The final sandy stretch suited me, and I was able to enjoy the ride. It’s unfortunate about Dumontier, but I now have a solid advantage and plan to hold it over the final two days.”

With just two stages remaining, Schareina stands poised to secure one of the biggest wins of his rally career, if he can maintain consistency through the unforgiving terrain of the Brazilian Northeast.
