BMW Motorrad is gearing up to reveal the new R 1300 R on April 10, introducing the first purely road-focused model built on its latest Boxer platform. Following the success of the R 1300 GS and the upcoming R 1300 GS Adventure, the R 1300 R marks an exciting shift towards naked, agile performance.

We’ve already seen hints of this new machine earlier, with the R 1300 R getting certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a 2026 model, alongside the R 1300 RS, R 1300 RT, and the recently announced R 12 G/S. If BMW keeps up this momentum, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the new R 1300 family makes their official debut.

What We Know So Far

The R 1300 R will use the same 1,300cc air- and liquid-cooled Boxer engine that made its debut in the R 1300 GS. While it’s not confirmed if it will share the exact same tuning, one thing’s clear — the Automated Shift Assistant (BMW’s semi-automatic shifting system) will likely be available as an option.

A teaser image for the launch shows a fresh headlight design featuring twin slanted LED position lights — a trendy look for modern naked bikes — while maintaining a distinct BMW personality, separate from the S 1000 R and M 1000 R.

Adding to the hype, BMW’s teaser tagline, “Born for Bends” and “Boxer Punch on Every Curve,” hints at the R 1300 R’s focus on agile, sporty handling. Thanks to a more compact and lighter powertrain layout — with the transmission tucked under the engine — we can expect a shorter wheelbase, sharper steering, and a more playful ride compared to the outgoing R 1250 R.

Countdown to Launch

With the official reveal just around the corner, expectations are high. The R 1300 R seems set to deliver the best of BMW’s Boxer tradition, wrapped in a sportier, more nimble package that’s perfect for twisty back roads and city rides alike.

We’ll know all the details when BMW lifts the covers on April 10. Stay tuned!
