A New Contender in the Touring Segment: Mitt GT-K

A New Contender in the Touring Segment: Mitt GT-K

Discover the Mitt GT-K, an affordable yet feature-packed touring bike offering luxury, comfort, and performance at half the price of premium models like BMW’s GT and RT motorcycles.

BMW’s GT and RT motorcycles are renowned for offering unparalleled touring experiences, blending luxury, performance, and reliability. Both the K 1600 GT and R 1250 RT are at the top of the game, embodying premium grand touring with top-tier engineering. However, their price tags are often a major sticking point. Enter the Mitt GT-K, a fresh, budget-friendly alternative from Spain that promises to deliver a similar grand touring experience without the eye-watering MSRP.

Who is Mitt?

Mitt is a relatively young motorcycle brand based in Spain. They don’t manufacture bikes in-house; instead, they import selected models from China and fine-tune them for the European market. Despite being a newcomer, Mitt has built a solid reputation in Europe, known for its high-value offerings that blend affordability with respectable performance.

The Mitt GT-K: A Touring Bike with a Twist

At first glance, the Mitt GT-K might remind you of BMW’s premium tourers with its fully faired bodywork and imposing stance. However, a closer look reveals that the GT-K isn’t just a knockoff; it offers legitimate touring capabilities tailored for riders seeking value without sacrificing comfort.

The heart of the GT-K is a 730cc water-cooled parallel-twin engine that delivers 75 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 70 Nm of torque at 6,700 rpm. While it may be half as powerful as the six-cylinder BMW K 1600 GT, the GT-K makes up for it with its relatively lightweight design, tipping the scales at just 496 pounds (225 kg)—less than half the weight of a Honda Goldwing. The six-speed gearbox comes equipped with a slipper clutch, but notably, there’s no quick-shifter, and it uses a chain drive instead of BMW’s signature shaft drive.

Lightweight Design and Premium Hardware

The GT-K’s lightweight nature is attributed to its aluminium frame and rear swingarm, making it easier to handle on long rides and in urban environments. It also comes equipped with standard touring amenities, such as:

  • 20-litre side cases and a 24-litre fuel tank, ensuring ample storage and long-range touring capabilities.
  • Partially adjustable upside-down front forks and a rear shock with a plush 80mm of travel, offering a comfortable ride on various terrains.

Mitt doesn’t skimp on braking performance either. The GT-K boasts a Brembo braking system with dual 298-mm front discs and 220-mm rear disc, complemented by Bosch ABS for added safety. It rides on Pirelli Angel GT tyres mounted on 17-inch wheels, offering excellent grip and stability in both dry and wet conditions.

Comfort and Features

Touring bikes live or die by their comfort and features, and the GT-K doesn’t disappoint. With a 30.7-inch seat height, even shorter riders can comfortably reach the ground. The elevated handlebars further enhance rider ergonomics, ensuring long-distance comfort without fatigue. The spacious rear seat provides a cosy spot for passengers, making it an ideal companion for two-up touring.

On the tech side, the GT-K comes well-equipped with:

  • Heated grips and seats, ensure comfort in colder climates.
  • An electrically adjustable windscreen, which can be adapted to different riding conditions.
  • A large colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity, offers vital ride information and navigation.
  • Multiple charging options, including USB, USB-C, and a 12-volt socket, ensure riders can keep their devices powered during long trips.

Perhaps the standout feature is its remote key system, which controls the ignition, side cases, and fuel filler cap—a premium touch reminiscent of higher-end tourers.

A Compelling Alternative at Half the Price

At a price of €11,495 (RM52,901.45), the Mitt GT-K costs less than half the price of comparable BMW models, making it an attractive option for riders looking for an affordable entry into the luxury touring world. While it may not match BMW’s performance or refinement, the GT-K offers an impressive combination of comfort, features, and practicality for its price.

Final Thoughts on the Mitt GT-K

The Mitt GT-K proves that you don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy a capable and well-equipped grand tourer. With its competitive pricing, quality components, and thoughtful features, it’s an exciting addition to the touring segment. If Mitt continues to expand its presence and refine its models, the GT-K could very well make its way to the U.S. market, offering a viable alternative to pricier European tourers. For now, European riders get to enjoy what might be one of the best value-for-money touring bikes on the market.
