National rider Azroy Hakeem Anuar is set to make his debut on the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) after securing a wildcard entry for the WorldSSP Round 10 race at Aragón, Spain, this week.
Fresh off a recent victory in Race 2 of the SS600 class at the 2024 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit, the announcement was made by PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda, confirming Azroy’s participation in the prestigious event.
This season, Azroy is competing full-time in both the ARRC and the PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix (Cub Prix) 2024. His appearance at Aragón will mark his first time competing in the WSBK.
Familiar with the MIE Racing team, Azroy previously raced with the team as a wildcard in the Moto2 class at the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2022 and 2023. The Selangor-born rider is eager to showcase his skills on the global stage once again.
“I want to thank the Boon Siew Honda team, PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda, and everyone who made my wildcard appearance possible,” said Azroy. “This is a fantastic opportunity, and I will give my best to prove myself in the WorldSSP race at Motorland Aragon.”
In Spain, Azroy will race alongside fellow national rider Khairul Idham Pawi and Japan’s Kaito Toba, riding the Honda CBR600RR—the same machine he has been using in the ARRC.
Azroy’s participation in the WorldSSP round in Spain may result in him missing Round 8 of the 2024 PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, scheduled to take place in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan this week.
