2021 welcomed the new FIM MiniGP World Series onto the Road to MotoGP and now applications are open to become part of the 2022 competition. Designed to unify and standardize MiniGP competitions from around the world under the same umbrella, the FIM MiniGP World Series aims to create an equal platform for young riders worldwide and increase their skill and opportunity.

Federations and CONUs (continental unions) can now apply to be part of the 2022 series. Applications are open until the 28th of February 2022.

Introducing: the FIM MiniGP World Series | MotoGP™

There are three types of Cup:

  • FIM MiniGP National Cup: organized by or through one FMN (national federation)
  • FIM MiniGP Regional Cup: organized by or through various FMNs
  • FIM MiniGP Continental Cup: organized by or through a CONU

In 2022, each series but must comprise a minimum of five events (in 2021 it was four) and 10 races (previously eight).

As for the first year of the series, parties must send their applications for the 2022 season to the FIM, via an application form that the FIM will provide to each national/continental federation.

Once the application period is over, the FIM will select the Cups that will form the second FIM MiniGP World Series. The inaugural series in 2021 comprises 11 Cups:

  • FIM MiniGP Alpe Adria Series
  • FIM MiniGP France Series
  • FIM MiniGP Indonesia Series
  • FIM MiniGP Ireland Series
  • FIM MiniGP Italy Series
  • FIM MiniGP Malaysia Series
  • FIM MiniGP Netherlands Series
  • FIM MiniGP North America Series
  • FIM MiniGP Portugal Series
  • FIM MiniGP Spain Series
  • FIM MiniGP UK Series

The competitions that form part of the 2021 FIM MiniGP World Series do not need to reapply for 2022. However, they must adhere to the 2022 conditions and send their 2022 calendar to the FIM and Dorna Sports a minimum of three months before the first event. The FIM MiniGP Qatar Series is also already confirmed to form part of the 2022 FIM MiniGP World Series.  It comes with a calendar split between 2021 and 2022.

The updated and attached guide provides a comprehensive look at the regulations, conditions, equipment, technical requirements, and next steps for each FMN/CONU, promoter or interested party if they wish to be part of the FIM MiniGP World Series in 2022. This includes a recap of how each Cup must be run in order to be accepted. It also includes details regarding schedules, tracks and more. It explains the sourcing and pricing of the required equipment, motorcycles and tyres. Last but not least, it provides descriptions of the design and liveries that will be necessary for a Cup that is accepted into the FIM MiniGP World Series.
