Ducati Multistrada V4 gets front and rear radars!

Ducati officially announces the production of the new Ducati Multistrada V4 with front and rear radar technology!

Ducati officially announces the production of the Ducati Multistrada V4 has already begun at the Borgo Panigale factory. With more than 110,000 units already produced; the Ducati Multistrada V4 is the world’s first production motorcycle to get front and rear radar technology. Aside from this, the fourth generation of Ducati’s Multistrada gets a newly developed light and compact V4 engine. Ducati says the new engine was designed to meet the needs required for “adventouring” use without neglecting emotion and sportiness. The new engine apparently offers record-breaking maintenance interval which we are very eager to see.  Ducati promises to reveal the details of the new engine on the 15th of October 2020. Aside from this, the official launch of the Ducati Multistrada V4 is set for 4th November 2020.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Radar Technology

Speaking of the new radar technology, Ducati’s interest in this system dates back to 2016 where the company worked with Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano to experiment similar systems. Following this, Ducati pushed its way to create a riding assistance system with the use of radars in cooperation with Bosch.

Diving deep into the new radar system, the Ducati Multistrada V4 comes equipped with two compact radar units. With a dimension of 70x 60x 28mm and weighing just 190 grams; Ducati says the radar units are similar to modern action cameras.

The front radar controls the Adaptive Cruiser Control (ACC) by means of controlled braking and acceleration to adjust the distance from the vehicle in front. Selectable at four levels, the system can be used when riding between 30 km/h – 160 km/h. However, Ducati says the control of deceleration and acceleration have been limited. This is to ensure the rider can maintain constant control of the vehicle at all times.

On the other hand, the purpose of the rear radar is to detect and alert on vehicles that fall in the blind spot. This includes vehicles that are not directly visible to the rider and the ones that are not visible through the rearview mirror. Furthermore, working hand in hand with the Blind Spot Detection system (BSD); the system also signals vehicles approaching from behind at high speeds.

Although more in-depth details are limited, for now, we just need to wait until for Ducati officially unveils the new Ducati Multistrada V4.
