The 2026 MotoGP World Championship heads to Southeast Asia this weekend as the Ducati Lenovo Team prepares for Round 17 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia. With Ducati enjoying a strong record at Mandalika in recent years, the Italian manufacturer will be looking to continue its success at one of the most exciting venues on the MotoGP calendar.
Ducati has established itself as the benchmark at Mandalika, claiming victory in each of the last three editions. Francesco Bagnaia secured the win in 2023 before Jorge Martín continued Ducati’s dominance in 2024. Last season, Fermín Aldeguer added another victory to the Italian manufacturer’s impressive record, reinforcing the competitiveness of the Desmosedici GP around the Indonesian circuit.
Despite Ducati’s winning streak, the 2025 Indonesian Grand Prix proved challenging for the factory squad. Marc Márquez’s race ended prematurely after a crash, while Bagnaia also failed to finish following an incident on lap eight during a difficult weekend. However, Aldeguer’s victory and Álex Márquez’s third-place finish highlighted the strength of the Ducati machinery, ensuring the brand remained at the front of the field.
Márquez Carries Momentum into Indonesia
Marc Márquez heads to Mandalika full of confidence after delivering a perfect performance at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider collected the maximum 37 points available by winning both the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix, reducing the championship deficit to just two points behind the overall leader.
The eight-time world champion has shown consistent pace since the Aragon Grand Prix, giving both himself and the team optimism heading into another crucial weekend in the title race.
“The Japanese GP went well: we were competitive throughout and fought for the win with everything we had. Ever since Aragon, my feeling on the bike has been consistently good, which gives us confidence. On paper, Indonesia hasn’t historically been my best track, and in the past, I’ve never managed to finish the main race; irony aside, the main objective with the Team is precisely to reverse that trend and put together a strong weekend,” said Márquez.
With only a handful of races remaining in the season, every point will be vital as Márquez continues his pursuit of the championship.
Bagnaia Focused on Returning to the Front
On the other side of the Ducati Lenovo Team garage, Francesco Bagnaia remains determined to rediscover his best form. Although the Italian rider secured valuable points in Japan, he admitted he was still struggling to find the riding confidence that has made him one of MotoGP’s strongest competitors in recent years.
Bagnaia has previously enjoyed success at Mandalika and hopes the Indonesian circuit can provide the opportunity to return to the front of the field.
“At Motegi, we managed to bring home more solid points, though I have to admit I struggled a lot with my riding. Historically, I’ve been fast and successful at this track, even if we suffered a lot last year. The goal is to keep working with the Team to recover the best feeling and return to fighting for the positions that matter,” Bagnaia said.
Ducati Looks to Extend Its Mandalika Success
The Mandalika International Circuit has quickly become one of Ducati’s strongest venues since joining the MotoGP calendar. The combination of fast corners, heavy braking zones, and demanding tyre management has consistently suited the Desmosedici GP, allowing Ducati riders to fight at the front year after year.
With Marc Márquez carrying championship momentum and Bagnaia eager to regain his competitiveness, Ducati Lenovo Team enters Round 17 aiming to strengthen its title challenge while extending its impressive winning record in Indonesia.
MotoGP fans can expect another thrilling weekend at Mandalika as Ducati looks to once again make its mark on Indonesian soil.
